ISPON Public Notice on Leadership: Official Statement on Misrepresentation and Court Ruling (2026)

Published: April 27, 2026The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has issued an official public notice to address ongoing concerns regarding the misrepresentation of its leadership and unauthorized claims made by certain individuals. This statement is intended to inform professional colleagues, stakeholders, and the general public about the verified leadership of the Institute and to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Official Position of ISPON Leadership

The Institute formally confirms that Chief (Dr.) Stephen Udezi L.A. is the duly elected and recognized President of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria.The election was conducted on October 19, 2024, through a valid and transparent process, and was witnessed by representatives of the National Assembly of Nigeria. This establishes the legitimacy and authority of the current leadership of the Institute.

Clarification on False Claims

It has come to the attention of the Institute that Mr. Timothy Iwuagwu has been presenting himself as the President of ISPON. The Institute categorically states that he is not the President and has no lawful authority to act or represent the office in any capacity.In addition, Mr. Olayinka Fasusi, who has been presenting himself as a “State Director” of ISPON, is not recognized by the Institute and does not hold any official position or authority.

Court Ruling and Legal Confirmation

Following the 2024 election, Mr. Timothy Iwuagwu challenged the outcome in court. The case was heard at the Federal High Court under Suit No: FHC/L/CS/1541/2024.The court dismissed the case and affirmed the legitimacy of the October 19, 2024 election, thereby upholding Chief (Dr.) Stephen Udezi L.A. as the lawful President of ISPON.

Police and Judicial Developments

Further attempts to challenge the leadership included criminal proceedings initiated by Mr. Iwuagwu. However, upon review, the Nigeria Police Force found the case to lack merit and withdrew the charges.Subsequently, the Federal High Court struck out the matter on March 30, 2026, reinforcing the Institute’s position and bringing further legal clarity to the situation.

Advisory to the Public and Stakeholders

In light of these developments, the Institute strongly advises members of the public, corporate organizations, and professional bodies to disregard any communications, directives, or representations made by unauthorized individuals in the name of ISPON.Stakeholders are also advised to refrain from engaging with such individuals on matters relating to the Institute and to ensure that all official communications are verified through the duly recognized leadership of ISPON.
